Drug dependence

In the last ten years science and medicine have dispelled the old views that addiction is a moral or intellectual weakness, it can now be viewed as a disease of the mind, body and soul.

The clinical definition of drug addiction as defined by the National Institute of Drug Abuse is: A chronic, relapsing disease that is characterised by compulsive drug seeking and use, despite harmful consequences.

A more casual definition is that some people can successfully use drugs recreationally and others can’t.

The onset of addiction or addictive behaviour can be slow or rapid and often an unmanageable drug user is the last to know they have a problem.

The reasons for drug abuse can be complex

Treatment for drug addiction can only be successful when the underlying causes are identified and resolved, and healthier pursuits replace dependence on drugs for a solution to life’s problems.

We employ a holistic approach to treat our clients who have a problem with drug dependence or drug addiction.

We will help you to resolve the is underlying issues behind taking drugs and help you appreciate that drugs are not a necessary or even helpful solution to life’s problems.
