Retreat South founder Ruth Magnusson has extensive experience in a wide variety of settings including education, rehabilitation, justice, forensic, trauma and Dual diagnosis. Ruth utilises a range of methodology developed over her years of experience in education, psychology and anthropology. She has a passion for supporting individuals to discover meaning in their lives and to reveal the depth and efficacy of their personal resources, skills and abilities. Ruth’s approach is supportive, generous and detailed encompassing all aspects of the person, their experiences and environment to ensure that their experience at Retreat South gives them the support, skills and knowledge that will carry them successfully into their future life.

As an accredited Exercise Physiologist my role is to prescribe exercise for people living with chronic/complex medical conditions. I tailor my intervention based on the unique traits of the individual presenting and aim to use exercise as a tool in a holistic approach to mental health rehabilitation at Retreat South. Specialty areas include Neurological/Neuromuscular, Metabolic conditions, Mental health and lifestyle modification.

Fiona has worked in the food industry for over 25 years and has an extensive experience in various method of cookery.  Currently studying to be a clinical nutritionist, Fiona is passionate about the pathway to health through nutrition.
Catherine Bailey
Founder & Director

Catherine started her Qi Gong journey in the mid 1990’s when she met her Soft Qi Gong Teacher Master Li Ying. Whilst studying Qi Gong, Catherine spent much time in nature, meditating in caves, and walking in the Blue Mountains, formalising her understanding and relationship to the qi. Her teacher Li Ying gave Catherine permission to teach in 2015. Catherine has a degree in Behavioural Science & a Degree in Fine Arts (Honours).

Dr Luke O’Regan
Founder & Director

Dr O’Regan was born in Brisbane and has lived and worked across Australia.

Dr O’Regan private Telehealth practice focus is helping adults who believe ADHD may be causing problems in their student, professional and/or personal lives. The main focus in his work is helping people identify and overcome the obstacles preventing the realisation of full potential across all domains: studies, career, relationship, leisure.

In addition to his medical degrees, Dr O’Regan attained sound qualifications in CBT as well as in Mindfulness integrated CBT and in Trauma Counselling .

Throughout his professional development activities, Dr O’Regan cultivated a strong position in Trauma informed care and the Recovery Model of Mental Health Care. He is also an advocate of High Intensity Interval Training as a core component of therapy for ADHD, Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder as well as yoga and mindfulness based practice (including meditation) as pathways to emotional balance and well-being.

Dr O’Regan obtained his vast experience having practised psychiatry in hospitals and community teams Australia-wide: Newcastle, Dubbo, Tamworth, Taree in NSW; Shepparton in Victoria; Hobart in Tasmania and Northam in WA.

He worked in private practice on the Gold Coast for six years before coming to Central Australia, commencing his role of Senior Staff Specialist of Mental Health Unit, at Alice Springs Hospital.

Eve is an artist and Arts Practitioner,  who’s work focuses on supporting people to develop their own creative practice, and to explore different mediums and techniques. Eve is able to offer sessions/lessons including, but not limited to, ceramics, print making, inks, and mixed media.

Jodie Honan
Founder & Director

Jodie is an ANZACATA* registered Creative Arts Therapist, and Ecologist. She can work with you to find your sense of place, belonging and connection. Your sessions you be indoors or outdoors (weather permitting), creating with a wide range of materials and techniques including found objects, traditional art materials, movement, sound or writing.

If you are interested in plants and nature, you can explore plant and animal lives and connections.  Jodie has experience with youth, gender diverse clients, and people with diverse abilities. She has also worked with Indigenous communities on public artworks, knowledge and relationships to heal Country.

ANZACATA Professional Membership: ANZACATA is the peak professional body representing creative arts therapists in Australia, New Zealand and the Asia/Pacific region. ANZACATA professional members have an approved Masters Degree or PhD level qualification including 750 hours of supervised clinical practice.

I am a local woman whom has lived overseas and in Sydney for the past 25 years. She has owned cafes in the inner city.  She returned home and enjoying the relaxing pace of country life. Oriel Glennen is a musician, composer, jeweller and visual artist based along the South West Coast of Victoria, Australia. 

Oriel Glennen is a folk singer/songwriter who has performed nationally and Internationally, over 15 years. Her new songs trawl the depths of the southern ocean, through unchartered territory ,hauling in treasured tales from the deep.

Her Celtic Cornish heritage and strong connection to place runs through her created musical imagery. Oriel writes songs rich in sea tales and folklore; sung in a voice ‘at once so distinct and haunting; instantly moving and memorable’.
